For Homebuilders

Any homebuilder can build ENERGY STAR qualified homes by partnering with the national program at www.energystar.gov.

CenterPoint Energy accepts applications in October for the following year’s program. Participating homebuilders have access to marketing materials, sales training courses, and a host of other opportunities.

Join the homebuilders who are paving a new path for energy-efficient construction practices. These homebuilders produced more than 20,000 ENERGY STAR homes in the CenterPoint Energy electric service territory during 2006 alone, and contributed to the more than 162,000 ENERGY STAR qualified homes in the state of Texas during 2006.

How do I get started?

Step One:

Review ENERGY STAR Home requirements on www.energystar.gov.

Step Two:

Contact a HERS Rater to discuss what adjustments your homes might need in order to meet ENERGY STAR specifications. HERS Raters can help you with a plan analysis and can help you determine the most cost-effective way for you to build and sell ENERGY STAR qualified homes.

Step Three:

Log on to www.energystar.gov, read, complete, and fax a homebuilder partnership agreement to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Step Four:

Begin building, testing and marketing your ENERGY STAR qualified homes.

Step Five:

Request an application for the CenterPoint Energy ENERGY STAR Homes Program using the form found here.

Note:

Completing an application does not mean that homebuilders are automatically enrolled in the utility-sponsored program. Applications are accepted once a year (in October for the following year’s program). If space in the program becomes available during the current program year, a program representative will contact you to discuss eligibility requirements.  E-mail us at Cheryl.Bowman@CenterPointEnergy.com to learn more about becoming an ENERGY STAR builder and/or joining this program.
